Southerners Bear Bulk of Cost of the Iraq War
Posted by PalmettoPatriot under SC News ItemsLeave a Comment
“The South continues to bear a heavy toll from the war, said national security analysts… More than half the 2,000 U.S. troops killed in Iraq either came from the South or were assigned to military bases in the region, according to an analysis of Pentagon records… Thirty service members with South Carolina ties are among the American dead in Iraq.” Other Southern States have higher numbers of deaths and casualties. Alabama has lost 31 soldiers, Tennessee 46, and Florida has lost 93. “Another 15,220 personnel have been wounded in action as of Oct. 15, the latest figures available. Eight thousand or so have been sent home because of medical conditions.” As this article points out, the Southron people are again bearing the cost of Washington, DC’s wars. How many more Southerners must die for the failed neo-con policies of the Federal Government? When have any of their wars ever benefited us?

South Carolina Rejects Federal ID Mandate
Posted by PalmettoPatriot under SC News ItemsLeave a Comment
It seems the spirit of John C. Calhoun has not totally vanished in the Palmetto State. “South Carolina joined Maine, New Hampshire and other states this week as it formally rejected a federal mandate that sets new national [sic - Federal] driver’s license standards.” Good news for South Carolinians! Our State leaders appear to sense the danger in this unconstitutional Federal assumption of authority. The Statehouse agreed that “The State shall not participate in the implementation of the federal REAL ID Act.” It’s about time we found our old courage! The Federal courts can not be the sole authority to decide the limits of the Federal Government. When unconstitutional laws are passed on the Federal level, South Carolina needs to intercede on behalf of our people and nullify such illegal acts… that is, until we are again independent and don’t have to worry about Federal tyranny. This is a strong step and we applaud our State Government for the courage it took!

Northern Mobster Family Plans Move to SC
Posted by PalmettoPatriot under SC News ItemsLeave a Comment
Some disturbing news about more Yankees who hope to live amongst us soon. ‘John “Junior” Gotti, son of the later “Dapper Don” John Gotti and head of the Gambino crime family in New York, is considering a move … to South Carolina. On June 17, The New York Post reported Mr. Gotti is financially strapped and placing his family’s Long Island compound up for sale. He is considering moving to a place with warmer climates and lower costs of living. “We’re going to move out east at first, and then, in a year, to Florida or South Carolina, where it’s cheaper…”‘ Northern transplants have lately been flooding the South in search of cheap land and a more relaxed pace of life outside of their Northern urban centers. Of course, mass migrations (especially of people who think nothing like us and share none of our traditions or heritage) threaten our cultural existence – no matter if they are Mexicans, Chinese or Yankees. As we South Carolinians are not yet independent and therefore can’t control our own borders at this time, we can only hope and pray that the mobster family changes their mind and remains in New York.

‘McCain’s campaign is acting frustrated as they lost their front-runner status,” said Scott Reed, who ran Bob Dole’s 1996 campaign. The Arizona senator’s support in early primary state surveys has been static or slipping. This week, polls in Iowa and South Carolina showed him in single digits…. [McCain] isn’t acting so happy in his 2008 reprise; he’s gone negative amid numerous challenges.’ This is good news to patriotic Americans who oppose open borders and endless foreign wars that never benefit our people. It’s also good news for patriotic Southerners who revere their Confederate heritage (remember, McCain recently came to SC and blasted the Confederate battle flag). ‘McCain also lags in fundraising, with another financial deadline looming, and has trimmed campaign staff. His embrace of a bipartisan immigration bill has furthered angered conservatives — a key GOP primary voting bloc already wary of him. And he’s fighting the perception that he’s yesterday’s candidate….” Hopefully, he is.

Immigration Issue is Killing Lindsey Graham
Posted by PalmettoPatriot under SC News Items[2] Comments
Lindsey Graham’s days in the US Senate may be numbered as he approaches next year’s election. “Graham, a Seneca Republican nearing the end of his first Senate term, has taken plenty of heat before, but perhaps never like this. Thanks to his high-profile help in crafting an immigration reform bill that has stalled in the Senate, constituents call and leave screaming messages on his office voice mail. “NO AMNESTY! NO AMNESTY!” one repeat caller yells for a minute or more in angry overnight messages that greet his aides in the morning. Graham’s staff estimates that his Senate offices have received about 3,000 letters, phone calls, e-mails and faxes about immigration in the last month, most of them critical of him. Talk-radio hosts within and beyond South Carolina deride Graham as a Ted Kennedy toady.” The distance between the average South Carolina voter and Lindsey Graham appears to be growing.

The Dark Side of the Chinese Economic Boom
Posted by PalmettoPatriot under SC News ItemsLeave a Comment
The Chinese economy has been booming of late as Western (European and American) technology and manufacturing bases continue to be transferred to the Third World. The effects here are of course disasterous as we continue our rapid transformation into a strictly service-industry society, entirely dependent on Third World manufacturing power. The effects are not always good in developing nations either, as this news story reveals. “China has pledged to bring to justice traffickers who enslaved hundreds of children and adults to work in brick kilns in two provinces…. Some 550 people have been liberated in recent weeks and families believe up to 1,000 children were enslaved. Children thought to be as young as eight years old were kidnapped, held captive and forced to work long hours for no pay. The case has revealed the dark side of China’s booming economy with forced labour and human trafficking common in rural areas…” Imagine enslaving your children for economic gain – the thought should be more than a little disturbing. “The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has estimated that throughout the world, 250 million children, aged between five and 17, were engaged in child labour” and the bulk of them at ”155 million in Asia alone.”

Legends and stories collectively when referred to nations and bands of people are called “mythos.” The word comes down to us from ancient Greece and can be seen as the societal mythology that helps define and shape a people. Such gives character and personality to nations and influences them in countless ways. It teaches values and imparts a cultural imprint that makes nationhood possible. The German philosopher Martin Heidegger even speculated that something like mythos could be passed down as historical memories through the generations – connecting tribes and nations with their ancestors and preserving the essence of the people. Without mythos people are mere individuals only, normally even when applied to extended family. However, mythos can even join together those separated by thousands of miles in a common aspiration. This is possible because of the distinctness given their culture and a bond imprinted upon their people.
America is a land of many distinct cultures. From the Amish people to the Gullah to the Cherokee, many nations of people call the civilization “America” home. The largest culturally distinct region of America is a land that was in fact once an aspiring separate nation that fought a long, bloody war for independence from the United States. This land is called by many names: Dixie, the South, the Southland, the Southern States, the Confederacy, etc. It is of course the land below the Mason-Dixon Line. In modern times the South is much smaller than it was once. Southern Florida can no longer truthfully be labeled “Southern.” Neither can many other areas of the former Confederate States of America. However, there is still a land called the South that is still very distinct from the rest of America in its customs, history, ethnic makeup, dialect, cuisine, folk art, etc. To illustrate the differences between the North and South someone once said that the South is a place, while the north is a direction. Many would agree with the sentiment.
In this age of countless pressure groups lobbying for endangered species, protected ecological areas and the rights of the oppressed, it seems past time to speak up for the vanishing Southerner. “Vanishing” is a just description of the “Southron” (as many Old South folks commonly referred to themselves). Southrons are disappearing from a number of causes: declining birthrates, outward migration and brain-drain and massive non-Southern immigration (including huge numbers of Third World workers and Yankee transplants – mostly retirees). It collectively adds up to an aging, shrinking South. If this were not enough, the symbols and emblems of Dixie are everywhere under siege. School children in the South are routinely banned from wearing clothes or carrying bags that picture the flags and symbols of their heritage and culture. The Confederate battle flag in particular has been removed from countless places of public view across the Southland. States have even been pressured into removing Southern banners from their capital buildings and heritage sites. Individuals have been threatened and warned not to display images of their Southern heritage for fear of offending minorities or non-Southerners. On television, in Hollywood films and quite often in university and school classrooms the Southern male (normally stereotyped as uneducated, uncouth, racist and sexist) is the butt of jokes and the object of insult and injury. “Southern-ness” is under attack everywhere in Dixie.
One sure way to destroy a people is to take away their heroes, their pride in themselves, their symbols and outward expression of uniqueness. This was one of the key components of the Reconstruction of the late1860’s and 70’s. As soon as the would-be independent States of Dixie were conquered by force they had to be re-made so that there would be no future attempts to buck Washington, DC’s authority. This is where the loyalty oaths and the pledge of allegiance to the Federal flag originate. The disenfranchisement of Southerners in the early years of Reconstruction was only a small part of the overall strategy to re-shape the South. However, the Reconstruction effort ran aground with the demise of the Radical Republicans’ electoral success in the North and a pro-Southern civilian movement which challenged the military occupation of the South until eventually the Federal troops were withdrawn. However, the Reconstruction of the South resumed full force a century later. Since the 1960’s the Federal Government has taken control of virtually all Southern institutions with the said purpose of addressing racial injustices, especially to protect and empower the Black minority against the Anglo-Celtic Southron majority. We see today what fifty years of direct Federal intervention in the daily lives of Southerners has produced – a climate hostile to all things overtly pro-Southern. This has led to a decline in the mythos of Dixie, the power and essence of the South.
The mythology of the South was one that inspired generations of Southerners to take up arms in defense of their homeland and ideas. Without passing judgment on the 1860’s Confederate cause, mythos has less to do with historical accuracy than it does with the power of the mythology over groups of people. Southerners later took value from the stories of the fearless moral leadership of Robert E. Lee and bold cunning of the God-fearing warrior Stonewall Jackson. They grew up on tales of the Alamo, the Battle of New Orleans and Pickets’ Charge. From these stories they learned the importance of honor and bravery, even when outnumbered and outgunned. They learned to be true to their Christian heritage and who they were and to put trust in the Lord, sovereign of the universe. Southerners were raised on legends of Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone and dreamed of exploring and hunting, spending a great deal of time in nature. It was common for Southern youngsters to hunt, fish, ride horses and work in gardens and fields. This connected them deeply to their native land. For these reasons Southern children were far different than Yankee or California children. Their surroundings, the values collectively taught them by their family and friends, the broader yearnings of their society made them unique and wonderful in a world of countless variations. Compare such influences to today’s hip-hop music stars and over-night celebrities produced by New York and California media. Compare the Southern way of life with the new rushed, consumer-driven culture of being imposed upon Southern people and communities.
Today the mythos of Dixie is deeply wounded. It might fade away, and with it the people and culture of Dixie. Sure, people of some kind or another will continue to live in the warm, fertile land we call the South, but they will no longer be identifiable “Southron” and loyal to a place called Dixie. Their culture will be different. They will sing different songs, laugh at different kinds of jokes, talk differently, probably look differently, fly different flags, honor different heroes – possibly different gods, etc. and all those just mentioned things that were Southern will be lost forever. This is the vicious trend, and the pace of change in the South is quickening.
A return to the true mythos of the Southland can upset the trend and empower Southerners to pursue their own self-development. Similar revolutions in nations of people have occurred frequently in history, bringing nations back from the brink of oblivion. To save the Southern people an honest reverence for the nobility of the Southron Mythos must be re-established in the hearts, communities, schools and local government of Dixie. A revival of cultural pride is the only way to preserve the Southerner as distinct. A blind rush towards bland uniformity and mediocrity across the vast civilization of America is in the interest of only the super-elite who would replace us all with cheap foreign workers and who see cultural distinctions as hindrances to the free flow of goods, people and money worldwide. In direct opposition to the super-elite and the leaders of the Federal regime in Washington, DC, the effort to protect endangered cultures and peoples must be extended broadly below the Mason Dixon Line throughout that distinct and fabled land of Dixie.
